FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does Terns Exim AI actually do?
It helps you evaluate a product/destination-country pair before you commit to exporting: market intelligence (trade value trends, unit price benchmarks), duty rates, compliance requirements, a landed cost calculator, side-by-side country comparison, and a composite Opportunity Score — all in one place instead of pulling each piece from a different government site.
Where does the data come from?
Trade volumes and unit prices come from UN Comtrade. Duty rates come from World Bank WITS (World Integrated Trade Solution) bulk data and, in a small number of cases, manually curated entries. Every figure on the site is labeled with its source — we never show an estimated or guessed number without saying so.
Is the data real-time or cached?
Trade and duty data is fetched from UN Comtrade and World Bank WITS and cached to keep the app fast and within free-tier API limits. It is not a live tick-by-tick feed — each result shows how the figure was sourced (e.g. "From WITS bulk import") so you know what you're looking at.
Which countries and products are covered?
Our duty-rate database currently has verified rates for 71 countries across 7,042 HS product codes, and market intelligence queries can be run against a wider set of Comtrade-reporting countries. Coverage grows as we add more bulk data — if a specific product or country isn't covered yet, the app tells you plainly rather than guessing.
Who is Terns Exim AI for?
Primarily Indian exporters deciding whether a new product or destination market is worth pursuing, trade consultants doing due diligence for clients, and business owners exploring export as a new revenue line.
How do you verify duty rates instead of guessing?
Every duty rate is either pulled directly from World Bank WITS bulk data (MFN or India-preferential tariff schedules) or manually entered by us from an official source — never interpolated or estimated. If we don't have a verified rate for a product/country pair, the app shows "Not available" instead of a plausible-looking placeholder.
What is the Opportunity Score?
A composite score built from the same market intelligence, duty, compliance, and landed cost data shown elsewhere in the app — it is not a fresh or independent data source. Some inputs (like competition level) are clearly marked as estimates; missing data is excluded from the score rather than guessed at.
Is this legal, tax, or compliance advice?
No. Terns Exim AI surfaces publicly available trade data and compliance information to help you research a decision — it is not a substitute for advice from a customs broker, trade lawyer, or chartered accountant, and it does not guarantee accuracy of any government's current requirements.
What does it cost?
Terns Exim AI is currently free to use while we're in early access.
Where is Terns Exim AI based?
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.
